Indo-Asian News Service, Islamabad, Jan 15: The National Assembly of Pakistan Thursday unanimously passed a resolution condemning the blasphemous caricatures published in a French magazine.
The resolution maintained that there were deliberate attempts to incite violence, create discord, widen misunderstandings among civilisations and provide opportunities to terrorist elements to capitalise on public sentiments, The News International reported.
The resolution maintained that such malicious attacks on the sanctity of the Prophet also mean hate speech.
Opposition leader Khursheed Shah said Europe was fuelling terrorism by allowing such cartoons to be published.
The resolution stated that Parliament respects freedom of expression but European countries should know the limits associated with it.
The resolution strongly condemned the printing and reprinting of the blasphemous caricatures of the Prophet by French journal Charlie Hebdo.
The resolution was tabled by Railway Minister Saad Rafique and called upon the UN and EU to stop such caricatures from being published.
The House also condemned all kinds of violence under whatever pretext and maintained that Islam is a faith of peace and tolerance.
