Pallavi Das’ ghoomar dance applauded on social media

Bhubaneswar: Odissi danseuse Pallavi Das’s ghoomar dance cover, an Orissa folk dance version from the controversial movie ‘Padmaavat’, has garnered appreciation from a large number of people on twitter and YouTube. The dance was performed by students of Guru Pankaj Udra Sanskruti Academy.
Speaking to Orissa POST, veteran dancer Pallavi said, “It’s a unique combination of Sambalpuri folk dance and Chau dance form. Both are very beautiful folk dance forms of Orissa. We have dedicated this video to film Padmavat and also Orissa’s folk dance.”
She added, “We had thought of creating a version in support of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film ‘Padmaavat’. We thought that it could be fascinating if we added our Odissi in this version.”
It was a beautiful piece of dance and she has fused with Sambalpuri and Chhau in in her creation. She added that the composition was formally made a month ago but the video shoot took place in one day. The video has been shot at Chilika, she added.
The artistes who performed in Sambalpuri folk dance are Pallavi Das, Rose Lakra, Pritirekha Behera and Truptimayee Dhalasamanta. Those who performed Chhau dance are Pradyumna Mohanta,Ashish Raj, Nageswara Si and Ajit Bindhani.
Her early Odissi piece in 2017 which was based on the theme song of Game of Thrones series was also hugely lauded.
“We thought to create such versions to promote Odissi at international level,” said Das, the granddaughter of legendary Odissi Guru Pankaj Charan Das.
Talking about her upcoming project Pallavi said, “My grandfather’s 99 birth anniversary is coming, so, I have planned to create a music video paying tribute to the Odissi legend. The music video is one of the choreographs of Guru Pankaj Charan Das.”
