Patia robbery attempt foiled; 4 held

Bhubaneswar: A swift police response foiled a late-night robbery attempt near Patia Baradei Temple, resulting in the arrest of four armed suspects and the seizure of weapons and other materials intended for the crime, police said Thursday. The accused have been identified as Budhadeb Barik (20), Lucky Soren (19), Sagar Bisoi (26) and Karunakar Digal (24).

According to police sources, around 3:30 am December 3, a night patrol team—acting on instructions from Chandrashekarpur IIC Girish Chandra Maharana—received information that a group of men armed with lethal weapons had gathered in an open field near Baradei Temple in Patia to plan a robbery targeting passersby. At around 3:55 am, the police team reached the spot and found six individuals drinking and engaged in a heated discussion. On seeing the police, the group tried to flee. Four were overpowered, while two escaped on a motorcycle. During a personal search, police seized multiple sharp weapons, a packet of chilli powder, a written action plan, and other incriminating items from the arrested suspects.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused had conspired to commit robbery in the Patia Station Road area and had been roaming the city with weapons for several days, creating fear among residents. It was also found that Sagar Bisoi had a prior case registered under Infocity Police Station. All four arrested suspects were produced in court after completing the necessary legal procedures. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the two absconding accused, Sheikh Zaidul and Sheikh Taufiq, and to uncover the full extent of the group’s criminal activities.
