Keonjhar, June 29: Monsoon has just started. But rain has already thrown life out of gear in Keonjhar town Thursday. Healthcare services were hit at the district headquarters hospitals as dirty sewer water entered several wards in the hospital. Patients had a harrowing time having had to wade through dirty water. Floors of CDMO office, PC Centre, blood bank and medicine ward were submerged under drain water.
It was reported that water lay stagnant in front of cabins-1 and 2 of the medicine ward. The mess resulted from lack of proper drainage in the hospital. With drains choked due to encroachment, water did not drain out.
Locals said even after a few minutes of rain, the hospital gets flooded with water from outside and does not drain out due to lack of proper outlets. ADMO Dr BB Mishra said steps will be taken to drain out water from the hospital.
Besides, normal life was severely affected in the town as most parts got flooded. Due to choked drains, many places and streets were waterlogged, creating commuting woes for residents.
Locals expressed displeasure over unhealthy condition that prevailed in most parts of the town due to water-logging. They observed that the commuting problem will worsen in the coming weeks if no preventive measure is taken.
Water logging was reported at Court Chhak, Tehsil Chhak, Mining Raod, College Chhak to Gandhi Chhak, Maguragadiasahi, Gandhi market, Jagannathpur, Kasipur, Baldevjew Colony, Bank Colony, Badahala and Dhangarpada.
Locals alleged that such situation arises during rainy season as drains are choked with dirt and garbage. Traders in Gandhi market faced a harrowing time due to water-logging. If this continues for some more time there are chances that there will be an outbreak of diarrhoea and cholera and dengue. PNN
