Nabarangpur: After beds, now spaces between the beds have started falling short to accommodate in-patients at the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) here.
With the number of patients constantly increasing at the DHH, locals have been demanding an increase in the number of beds. But, neither do the district administration nor the local representatives pay any heed to the demand, it is alleged.
At a time when the health department’s awareness drive has made people, who were earlier dependent on traditional healing methods, to fall back upon modern medical facilities, the DHH is lacking adequate infrastructure.
A mere peep into the wards will reveal the condition in which patients are being treated. Spilling over from beds to in-between spaces, patients are now being made to lie on the floor near toilets, making the doctors’ job difficult some times.
Apart from the space problem, the hospital needs more toilets and improvement in condition of the existing ones.
While patients at the DHH are struggling for spaces, the Mother and Child Hospital (MCH) constructed at a cost of Rs 9.80 crore has been lying unused since its inauguration two years ago.
“Had the new MCH building been made functional, some patients could have been shifted there, making it better for both the patients and doctors,” locals observed.
Only some doctors are sitting at the new MCH building during morning hours, while the remaining hours of the day it remains under lock and key. Patients and locals have urged the district administration to take immediate steps to resolve the problems.
