Gunupur: In yet another exhibition of loyalty, a pet dog Friday saved the lives of five members of his master’s family by killing a venomous snake at the entrance of the house here in Rayagada district.
The fresh incident was a repetition of a case in which a Doberman had killed four cobras in Sebakpur village in Gajapati district July 12 and saved eight lives. The pet, however, had died in the former case after it was bitten by the reptiles.
This time around, the dog was found alive. It took place Thursday night at the home of Ramesh Lima, an advocate staying on Bypass Road near the town.
A poisonous snake tried to slither into the house of Limas late Thursday night when all were asleep. The dog that was guarding at the main gate of the house pounced on the snake and killed it. The family members spotted the mutilated carcass of the snake on the yard next morning and the dog had blood stains all over its body. PNN
