Bhubaneswar: Total petroleum, oil and lubricants consumption in Odisha during 2020-21 fiscal stood at 5,697 TMT, which is 3.4 per cent of the country’s total consumption, said Tarun Kapoor, the Secretary to Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, Monday.
Kapoor was in Bhubaneswar to meet Oil & Gas PSUs (IOCL, HPCL, BPCL, OIL, ONGC, GAIL and RBML & NAYARA) officials. He also mentioned that MS consumption in the state was 775 TMT (2.4% of India), High Speed Diesel (HSD) consumption was 2505 TMT (3.5% of India) during FY’21. The major petroleum product supply points which cater to the energy needs of Odisha’s economy are Paradip, Jharsuguda, Somnathpur and Bhubaneswar, he added.
He also interacted with Chief Secretary of Odisha, Suresh Chandra Mohapatra, and discussed various issues related to oil & gas industries and sought assistance from state government.
Kapoor said, “Oil & gas CPSEs have invested `2, 13, 209 crore in Odisha out of which 25 projects (worth `43,322 crore) have already been completed. There are 34 ongoing projects worth `77,331 crore and 10 proposed projects with an investment of `92,556 crore.”
“A total of 12 LOIs have been issued for setting up of CBG plants and 1 LOI has been issued for set up of RUCO- Bio Diesel Plant. A new LPG import facility at Paradip is being shortly commissioned (by May 2021). Two new LPG plants are being constructed at Rayagada and Khurda,” he added.
According to the secretary, three new POL terminals are being constructed at Berhampur, Sadashivpur and Jharsuguda to meet the growing POL demand of the state.
“A Bio Ethanol plant is being set up at Bargarh in Western Odisha by Bharat Petroleum (BPC) to meet the requirements of 10 per cent ethanol blending in MS. The Oil Industry has started the supply of ethanol-blended MS in the state and shall achieve the targeted 10 % blending with MS during the year 2021-22, Kapoor said.
