Pharmacist leaves needle in girl’s waist

Angul: A 5-year girl of Talcher- Kandol panchayat in Angul district is reeling with pain after a negligent pharmacist left a broken needle in her waist while administering an injection.

Father of the girl Niranjan Behara said that the girl can recover only if the state government provides them with financial assistance for her treatment since they are not in a position to afford further hospitalization on their own.

According to Behara, the girl suffered from fever while she had gone to her uncle’s place. The pharmacist of a nearby clinic administered the injection to her. However, the needle somehow broke and got stuck in her waist leading to severe pain.

The child underwent surgery at a private hospital in Angul and then another in Cuttack, but both failed to pull out the damaged needle owing to lack of a 3D digital machine that could detect it. She was brought back home despite being in pain after both attempts failed.

Behera says lack of money is preventing him from taking the kid to other hospitals and has sought financial support from the government to get the treatment done.
