Bhubaneswar: In a bid to aware the citizens about the consequences of deforestation and encourage them to plant trees, a plant distribution programme was organised by UDRA, a voluntary outfit, here Wednesday.
The event was attended by Bhubaneswar North MLA Priyadarshi Mishra and Korei MLA Akash Das Nayak among several others.
Subhrajyoti, secretary of UDRA, said, “We have organised this event with an aim to encourage the citizens to do their part in imparting greenery to the city.”
Through its ‘GIFT a Plant’ campaign, UDRA has distributed around 500 plants and the outfit has aimed to gift another 1,500 plants to the citizens.
Congratulating the UDRA team for its efforts, Mishra said, “With increasing population, environmental concerns are also increasing. It’s the need of the hour to plant more and more trees to make the smart city green, like it was.”
Akash Das Nayak thanked the UDRA team for inviting him and deliberated on the role of community as a whole for conservation of the environment.
