Bhubaneswar, July 7: The week-long Van Mahotsav celebrations that began July 1 concluded in the city Tuesday. Several English medium schools across the city celebrated by planting many saplings in their campus and nearby places.
Many schools hosted various competitions marking the week. Students were given suggestions regarding tree plantations at their home.
The literary club of DAV Public School in Unit VIII organised various activities aiming at instilling a love for plants and nature. Activities in the campus included the plantation of saplings by students with an oath to plant more trees.
To highlight the lofty ideal behind the Van Mahotsav week, a plantation programme was organised by students in Jayadev Vatika, with an underlying theme of creating awareness and love for trees amongst the people. The students staged a skit based on the theme ‘Tree is Life’. Activities in the school included special assemblies, talks, and poster designing among others. “Students were given special teaching this week through various activities. They are showing more interest and are very conscious regarding global warming and climate change. We are glad that they are paying active interest in how to save our planet,” said Bhagyabati Nayak, principal, DAV school.
Likewise, Buxi Jagabandhu English Medium School and ODM School also organised various activities on the concluding day of Van Mahotsav Week.
Students of BJEM School were given prizes by Abhishek Tripathy who recently cleared the UPSC exam and is also an ex-student of the school. School students also staged a drama titled ‘Save Trees and Save Wildlife’ on their school premises.
“This one week was a wonderful learning experience. I got an opportunity to be part of several plantation activities that took place in our school. I planted several saplings at my home too and encouraged my neighbours and relatives to do the same,” said Manoj Kumar Tripathy, a young student of ODM School
