Khurda: A major fire engulfed a plastic goods factory at the Industrial Estate here Sunday.
More than 10 fire tenders from Khurda, Jatni and Bhubaneswar along with hydraulic platforms and many fire extinguishers from Bhubaneswar were pressed into service to douse the blaze, fire brigade officials said.
Though huge quantities of raw materials and finished plastic products were gutted, no injury to anyone was reported, they said.
The fire, which broke out on the third floor of the four-storied building, was controlled, sources said.
According to Khurda fire district officer Debendra Kumar Swain, fire engulfed the eight-month-old plastic unit of Siva Shankar Trading Ltd, which produces disposable tumblers and other items. The mishap occurred when some of the employees were trying to drive away bees with the help of torches in the fourth floor of the company building. The losses are yet to be ascertained.
The factory is the largest manufacturer of disposable plastic tumblers and other plastic materials used in weddings and parties, claimed the proprietor’s son Akash Agarwal.
