New Delhi/Bhubaneswar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi Saturday condoled the loss of lives in a road accident in Madhya Pradesh and announced an ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh for the kin of those killed and Rs 50,000 for those injured.
Eight people died after their car fell into a drain, which was overflowing with rainwater, in Madhya Pradesh’s Agar Malwa district early Saturday. Seven of them were members of a family from Odisha and the eighth was the driver, a native of Madhya Pradesh.
A post on X by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said Modi termed the incident “extremely painful”.
“I extend my condolences to those who have lost their loved ones,” the PM said.
He said an ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given Rs 50,000.
