Nilgiri: Acting on a tip-off, Forest department officials nabbed a poacher during a raid at Rathakatha pond area in Kuldiha wildlife sanctuary under Nilgiri sub-division of Balasore district, in the wee hours of Sunday. The accused was identified as Basant Madhei, 28, a resident of Betakata village under Kesipur panchayat. A country-made gun was seized from his possession.
However, two of Basant’s accomplices managed to flee the spot. A case was registered in this connection and Basant has been produced in court, officials said. The breakthrough came after Kuldiha ranger Anant Kumar Jena was tipped off about the entry of a group of poachers inside the Kuldiha wildlife sanctuary. A team of officials led by Jena immediately raided the place and nabbed Basant.
