Nilagiri: Forest officials arrested two suspected poachers during a raid in the Khumkut area under the Panchalin geswar beat house of Kuldiha Wildlife Sanctuary in Baleshwar district Friday.
Acting on a tip-off that suspected poachers had entered the sanctuary for hunting, forest personnel raided the houses of two residents of Dwarika village. During a house search of Nandia Murmu, 41, officials seized a country-made gun, a snare trap and 5 grams of black gunpowder. From the house of Shyam Singh, 28, they seized a bow, an arrow and snare traps.
The two men were arrested and booked under relevant sections of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972. Forest officials registered OR Case No. 11/K of 2026-27 in connection with the seizure. The raid was conducted by In-charge Ranger Soumya Ranjan Majhi, Panchalingeswar Forester Hrushikesh Pradhan, forest guards Jayalaxmi Puhan and Pradeep Kumar Rout, Rakesh Kumar Barik and anti-poaching squad member Jayant Kumar Sethi, among others.
