Bhubaneswar: Noted Oriya poet and Kendriya Sahitya Akademi awardee Sourindra Barik died following prolonged illness at a hospital here Tuesday. He was 79.
Writers, poets, intellectuals and several well wishers from various walks of life expressed condolences with Barik’s family and offered their last tributes to the departed soul at his residence near Punama Gate.
The poet after completing his Master’s degree in English literature joined the teaching profession and retired as the chairman, Bureau of Textbook Preparation and Production.
He was honoured with the Kendriya Sahitya Akademy award, Orissa Sahitya Akademi award and a host of other awards for his contribution to Oriya literature.
A prolific writer, Barik has authored several books, literary criticism and translated many books in Oriya. His publications include Samanya Kathan Upabharat, Akasha Pari Nibida, Gunugunu Chitrapata, Luhathu Bi Antaranga, Chahala Chhaire Ghadie, Anubharata, Ame Duhein and Padha Ba Napadha.
