Polasara 8-year-old girl’s gangrape 3 robbers held

Polasara: In a major breakthrough, the Kabisuryanagar police arrested three robbers for their involvement in the abduction and gangrape of an 8-year-old girl after committing robbery in her house in the intervening night of October 31 and November 1.

The trio, who broke into the house with an intention to loot, abducted the minor girl in her sleep and took her to a paddy field near her house where they took turns on her. The girl’s father woke up to find her missing in her room and searched for her.

He heard noise coming from the field and rushed there after which the three escaped in the dark. Ganjam SP Brijesh Kumar Ray revealed the incident before media persons at a press meet. The minor rape survivor is currently undergoing treatment at MKCG Medical College and Hospital here.

“All the three persons involved in the incident have been arrested. But the possibility of involvement of more persons can’t be brushed aside so a further probe is on,” SP Ray said. Earlier, the SP had released sketches of the suspects involved in the case.

The accused trio has been identified as Kalia Patra of Sodak village under Polasara police station, Mohan Topakul of Panchuani village under Sheragada police limits and Siba Kanmur of Sahaspur under Pattapur police limits.

According to the case diary, the three robbers entered into the house by breaking upon the back door and looted Rs 20,000 cash along with various gold and silver ornaments.

While decamping with the loot, Kalia spotted the girl sleeping alone. He lured his aides to abduct the girl in her sleep after which the trio took her to a nearby paddy field where they took turns on her. The three have confessed to have committed the crime, the SP said.

Earlier, two teams had been formed under supervision of SP Ganjam for supervision of the case. Subsequently, a SIT was constructed for monitoring the day to day progress of investigation.

During course of investigation, police came to know the whereabouts of the accused and arrested them. The looted jewellery, house breaking articles used for commission of the crime and two bicycles used in the crime have been seized from their possession.

They are involved in many criminal activities and have more than 11 other cases against their names, registered at different police stations in the district. They are involved with a racket and a manhunt has been launched to bust the racket, the SP said adding that the three were produced in court and later remanded in judicial custody after the court rejected their bail pleas.
