Police arrest man for killing alcoholic son

Athgarh: The mystery behind the disappearance of a 30-year-old person was finally solved Friday when police found his dead body at the backyard of his residence. The man had been missing for the past seven days. Police said that the youth was allegedly killed by his father and buried at the backyard.

The deceased has been identified as Kunia Dehuri, a resident of Gobara village under Gurudijhatia police limits of Athagarh sub-division in Cuttack district.

Sources said, villagers and relatives were actually in the dark about the whereabouts of Kunia, who went missing from May 24. However, the statements of family members regarding the disappearance of Kunia did not match. Hence the villagers lodged a complaint with the Gurudijhatia police.

Police interrogated Thursday night the family members of Kunia. During the interrogation, father of the missing youth, Narendra Dehury confessed to the crime. He also narrated the reason behind killing Kunia.

According to Narendra, the accused, Kunia was an alcoholic. His wife had also left him because of his addiction a year back. Kunia always created a ruckus after drinking. Unable to bear with this daily nuisance, the accused killed Kunia with an axe. Then he buried the body in the backyard of the house.  Narendra’s youngest son Titua also helped in the killing of Kunia. He has been on the since May 26 onwards.

Following the statement of the accused, police identified the place where Kunia was buried, Friday. The body was exhumed and sent for post-mortem. Police also arrested Narendra for the heinous killing of his son.
