Mumbai: The atmosphere of negativity is increasing these days on social media. Many celebrities are now shutting down their social media accounts due to constant abuse by trolls despite strict guidelines.

The latest case is from Aurangabad in Maharashtra, where a 26-year-old man has been arrested by the police. The man is accused of making objectionable comments on Hindi film actress Sonakshi Sinha’s Instagram account.

An official said Friday that Sonakshi Sinha had lodged a complaint with the Mumbai Crime Branch August 7. She made a video related to female safety and cyberbullying and harassment and posted it on Instagram.

An unidentified person made objectionable comments about women on this video and used profane language about some celebrities, the official said.

The cyber police station has registered a case under sections 294 and 354 (d) of the IPC and under the Information Technology Act. The cyber police traced the IP address as well as social media account to Shashikant Gulab Jadhav, resident of Tulji Nagar in Aurangabad, who allegedly made objectionable remarks.

Jadhav was produced in a court here Friday. The officer said that the court has sent him to judicial custody while further investigation is underway.

After Sushant Singh Rajput’s death, a new debate started in Hindi film industry on nepotism and factionalism. After being trolled on social media, Sonakshi deactivated her Twitter account.
