Police collect Rs 1.13 lakh fines from mask violators in Ganjam district

Chhatrapur:  Ganjam district police have so far collected Rs 1.13 lakh in fines from mask violators in the last 24 hours (Monday 6.00am to Tuesday 6.00am). This information was given by police officials here Tuesday.

Ganjam district has emerged as the top hotspot of coronavirus infections in Odisha. So far the district has reported 5,991 positive COVID-19 cases and with it 59 deaths, the highest in Odisha. In spite of these developments, there are people who are continuously violating norms like wearing of masks and maintaining of social distancing.

Police however, have intensified the drive against violators of rules. It has resulted in collection of substantial amount of fines.

Police also are on the lookout to prevent other criminal activities in the district. They busted a gambling racket Monday and arrested three gamblers and seized Rs 9,090 in cash from them. Similarly, five bootleggers were arrested and 2,100 litres of liquor seized from their possession.

Ganjam district reported 225 fresh COVID-19 cases Tuesday. Of the 5,991 cases, 3,817 patients have so far recovered from the disease. There are 2,057 actives cases currently undergoing treatment at COVID-19 hospitals.
