Police inciting tribal against ultras, says Maoist letter

Malkangiri: Maoists have accused the police here of inciting innocent tribals of the district against them by putting up fake posters in the name of props like the Adivasi Manch and the Adivasi Sangh at different places. “Police will not succeed in this attempt,” they warned.

The rebels say the police are engaging the surrendered Maoists as police informers to quell the Maoist movement. They also alleged that  torture was being resorted to on the villagers who refused to cooperate with the cops in such attempts.

“Several Maoists have laid down their arms before the police from Kuruba village in the district in past few months. Instead of rehabilitating them under the existing government policy for surrendered Maoists, the police are using them against the rebels. Such acts would not yield any result,” the letter reads.

“Police had stifled the voice of people in the district in the past. The rebels still continue to work in the interests of the people. Maoists still have support from intellectuals, the oppressed classes, the tribals and the educated masses, and this would continue,” the letter claims.
