Police officers defy transfer orders

Bhubaneswar: Six inspector-rank officers of the commissionerate police, whose transfer order were issued by then twin-city Police Commissioner Dr Rajendra Prasad Sharma last month, are yet to assume charge at their new places of posting.

Sources said a few inspectors are still reluctant to assume charge at their new places of posting due to various reasons. Sharma is currently the vigilance director of the state police following his elevation.
“The inspector-in-charge of Tamando police station is reluctant to join as the inspector-in-charge of Sahid Nagar police station, where he was transferred, since he will most likely be promoted to the rank of ACP within a few months. Now he is reluctant to take charge of any new police station,” said an official familiar with the matter.
Similarly, a few other inspectors are reluctant to assume duties at their new places of posting expecting that the current twin-city Police Commissioner YB Khurania may cancel the transfer orders.
When contacted, Khurania told Orissa POST that he has been occupied in various important official work after assuming charge and that he would look into the matter soon.
Police sources said Khurania has been “deeply occupied” in the ongoing investigation into the criminal network of the Dhalasamanta brothers and the prime minister’s visit to the capital city earlier this month. There is also a possibility that Khurania may himself order some fresh transfers in the coming months, said the sources.
As per the notification of the transfer order issued by Sharma, Sahid Nagar police station inspector-in-charge Deepak Kumar Mishra was transferred to Chandrasekharpur police station, while Chandrasekharpur police station IIC Devi Shankar Pratap was transferred to Airfield police station. Airfield police station IIC Bharat Sahoo was posted to Laxmisagar police station, while Laxmisagar police station IIC Rajat Kumar Ray was transferred to the DIB section of the commissionerate police. Tamando police station IIC Kishore Mund was shifted to Sahid Nagar police station; and KP Mishra, who was earlier posted in the DIB section, was transferred to Tamando as the IIC. PNN
