Bhubaneswar: Political parties here Tuesday engaged in a slugfest over Centre’s push for digital payment/cashless transaction.
While BJP criticised the state government accusing it of only indulging in talks the ruling BJD hit back lambasting the BJP-led government at Centre for its poor implementation of demonetisation. Leading opposition Congress on the other hand targeted both BJD and BJP accusing them of being ‘incompetent’.
Stating that poor internet connection in the state is the main hindrance in digital payment, BJP leader Prithviraj Harichandan said Orissa government believes in talks and not action. He asked the government about to plan to ensure internet connection in every panchayat.
However, senior BJD leader and Dhenkanal MP Tathagata Satpathy hit back at the saffron party for passing the buck on to others and said it is Centre’s responsibility to ensure fiber optic network in all villages and rural areas.
He also said the Centre implemented demonetisation without adequate preparations and the poor and small traders, especially in rural areas, are the worst suffers.
He added Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has supported Centre’s move to fight black money and BJD will stay the course.
Meanwhile, Congress leader Taraprasad Bahinipati claimed that digital payment will not be possible even in the next 10 years as the state government has not been able to provide electricity to thousands of villages, while the Centre has overlooked ground realities.
