Polls to be conducted in 4 states and Pondicherry from March 27 to April 29: Results on May 2

New Delhi:  The Election Commission of India (ECI) announced Friday the dates of Assembly polls in four states and the Union Territory of Pondicherry.  The polls will begin 27th March and end 29th April. However, polls for Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Pondicherry will be held in a single phase on April 6. Polls in Assam will be conducted in three phases (March 27, April 1 and 6) while for West Bengal the elections will happen in eight phases (March 27, April 1st, 6th, 10th, 17th, 22nd, 26th and 29th). Results for all the four states and Pondicherry will be announced May 2. This information was given by Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora at a press conference here Friday.

Polls are to be held for 294 seats in West Bengal, 234 seats in Tamil Nadu, 140 seats in Kerala, 126 seats in Assam and 30 seats in the Union Territory of Pondicherry. A total of 18.68 crore people will exercise their franchise in these five states for 824 Assembly seats. Polling will be conducted in 2.7 lakh booths in the four states and Union Territory of Pondicherry.
