New Delhi: Actress Poonam Pandey, who has been away from films for quite some time, is all set to make a comeback, but in a surprising way.
Poonam will be seen portraying Mandodari, the wife of Ravan, in Delhi’s iconic Luv-Kush Ramlila this year.
The actress will share the stage with actor Arya Babbar, who will play the role of Ravan. Excited about bagging the part, Poonam expressed her gratitude through her team, saying she was “extremely happy” to take on the role and thankful for the opportunity.
Fans of the actress, who have been waiting to see her on screen again, now have a reason to cheer as she steps into a mythological avatar in one of Delhi’s most celebrated Ramlilas.
The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has raised objections to the actress playing the role of Mandodari in the upcoming Ramlila. The group has urged the organisers, the Luv Kush Ramlila Committee, to reconsider her casting, citing her public image and past controversies, which they said “could hurt the sentiments of devotees.”
The organising committee, however, stated that they had no plans to drop Pandey. They added that past controversies should not prevent an artist from being given a chance to improve herself.
