Deogarh: Two postal officers were left battling for life after they were attacked with a sharp-edged weapon by a former sweeper of the same office here in this district Tuesday.
The accused has been identified as Suresh Mukhi, while the victims were identified as Ramesh Chandra Pradhan (postal inspector) and Deepak Kumar Sharma (assistant postal inspector) of the District Headquarters Postal Office.
According to sources, Suresh was reportedly working as a sweeper in a temporary position at the post office. He was arrested in connection with some case a few weeks back.
When he came out on bail and joined office, he came to know that he had been replaced. Infuriated, he started a heated argument with the two officials and left the post office.
Later, he returned with a sharp-edged weapon and attacked the two officials, critically injuring them. Other employees overpowered the accused and alerted the police.
On being informed, Deogarh SP Anupama James, who was passing by, reached the post office with a police team and arrested the accused.
On the other hand, the injured were rushed to the Deogarh District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) first and were later referred to VSS Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) in Burla where they are undergoing treatment.
Further investigation was on and the accused was forwarded to court.
