Pradhan for all 66 RMCs under e-NAM

New Delhi: Union minister for petroleum and natural gas Dharmendra Pradhan has written to Union agriculture minister Radha Mohan Singh requesting him to work towards bringing all 66 Regulated Market Committees (RMCs) in Odisha under e-NAM.
In a letter written to the minister, the minister told Singh that 60-70 per cent of Odisha population is still dependent on agriculture and allied activities. But till date only 10 mandis from Odisha are connected through the e-National Agriculture Market (NAM) where farmers can sell their products based on the prices offered by them.
In the letter, Pradhan said, “At present 10 mandis in Odisha are linked to the e-NAM platform. There is an urgent need to link all the 66 Regulated Market Committees (RMCs) functioning under the supervision and control of the Odisha State Agricultural Marketing Board (OSAMB).”
He added that this was especially important as the majority of the RMCs in Odisha have inadequate facilities and infrastructure. “Such an initiative shall go a long way in ameliorating farmers’ woes, help in correlation of farmer produce with markets and facilitate enhancement of farmers’ income,” he said.
National Agriculture Market (NAM) is a pan-India electronic trading portal which networks existing mandis to create a unified national market for agricultural commodities.
