Bhubaneswar: Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida Thursday reviewed preparations for the upcoming Eco Retreats at eight destinations across Odisha, stressing quality infrastructure, tourist safety, local employment and enhanced visitor experiences.
Chairing a meeting at Tourism Bhawan here, Parida said the Eco Retreats should develop into comprehensive tourism destinations rather than remain limited to accommodation facilities. She directed officials to ensure smooth operations, improved amenities and greater involvement of local communities. Emphasising livelihood generation, she said local youth and residents should receive priority in employment and tourism-related activities. She also called for greater participation of local artisans, craftsmen and entrepreneurs to showcase indigenous art, traditions and cultural heritage while boosting the rural economy.
Reviewing infrastructure requirements, Parida stressed reliable power supply, proper road connectivity and adequate supporting facilities at all locations to ensure a comfortable experience for visitors. She also called for introducing adventure sports and recreational activities wherever feasible to enhance the attractions. Highlighting the importance of tourist safety and health care, she directed officials to ensure CCTV surveillance, adequate security arrangements, paramedic services and basic medical facilities at every location.
The eight proposed Eco Re treat destinations are Konark, Sonapur Beach, Daringbadi, Talamali (new), Kolab (new), Hirakud, Satkosia and Kusum bandh (new). Parida emphasised that the initiative should showcase the state’s natural beauty, cultural heritage and adventure tourism potential while creating sustainable livelihood opportunities for local communities. She said the retreats should offer visitors a holistic tourism experience through improved facilities and meaningful engagement with local culture.
