Preet, Sarat nominated

Bhubaneswar: Emerging fast bowler Preet Kanwar Singh Chohan and eminent umpire Sarat Chandra Sahu have been nominated for the prestigious Saroj Mahasuara Awards – 2017. The two were selected by a committee headed by Sameer Mohanty.

Both Preet and Sarat will be presented with the awards at function here September 6 at the Town Club premises on the 15th death anniversary of eminent umpire Saroj Mahasuara. Town Club have been presenting the award since 2004 in memory of Saroj, who passed away in a tragic incident in 2002.

Preet was nominated for the award because of his spectacular performances in the U-19 level. In 2016-17 he while playing in the Cooch Behar Trophy for Orissa, he impressed all and sundry by bagging 27 wickets from five matches. He is among the top three wicket takers of the country in the U-19 level this season.

His best performance was his seven-wicket haul against Chhattisgarh. Currently Preet is at the MRF Pace Academy in Chennai under the guidance of the legendary Australian fast bowler Glenn McGrath.

On the other hand, Sarat is a BCCI panel umpire. He has been umpiring in different state and national level matches for nearly two decades. Since he started his career in 2002 he has umpired more than 1,000 state and 100 national level matches.
