New York, Sept 30: In a gaffe, US President Barack Obama referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi as “President” in his remarks after their bilateral meeting.
The slip of tongue was recorded in the first White House transcript of his remarks but later it was re-issued, correcting the “President” to “Prime Minister”.
The gaffe happened when Obama was making his remarks after talks with Prime Minister Modi here Monday. Obama said, “We are encouraged by the aggressive nature of ‘President’ (Prime Minister) Modi’s commitment to clean energy.” The White House later issued a corrected transcript but the video available on the White House website shows Obama making the gaffe.Old habits die hard
Addressing a public gathering in 2012 US President Obama said he had bad days and made mistakes in the 2008 campaign, too, but nobody remembers that because he won. ‘We goofed up. I goofed up,’ he said of 2008. ‘But the American people carried us forward.’ Notably, in a brief slip of the tongue in 2008, then Democratic presidential nominee Obama was outlining his Christianity but accidentally said, “my Muslim faith.”
