Priest rescues newborn girl

Barang: A temple priest at Madhuban village under Barang police limits bumped into a newborn girl on the cremation grounds here Wednesday night.

Sources said, priest Sisir Panda heard the newborn’s cry when he was returning home from the temple around 10 pm Wednesday. On inspection, Panda found that the baby girl was being taken care of by a pack of stray dogs.

“I saw the newborn encircled by some stray dogs. I took hold of the girl and brought her to my house,” Panda said.

According to priest Panda, the baby girl has a tumour on her back. “I took the newborn to Barang police station but they refused to extend any help in this regard. I also consulted some doctors for the girl’s treatment. But, they advised me to arrange at least Rs 1 lakh for the purpose,” Panda claimed.
