Nabarangpur, March 23: Local police Monday detained the principal of a public school in Nabarangpur town for
allegedly sexually harassing two girl students of the school. Police took the step after father of a Class IX girl lodged a
complaint against the principal with the police. The principal was also accused of misbehaving with another girl of the same school. But, her family did not file
any complaint.
According to the complaint filed with the police, principal of Mother Teresa Public School, Sanjeev Kumar Singh, had been sexually harassing two girls studying in Class IX for last one year.
He had asked them several times to come to his residence at night. This apart, he had also asked them to give their mobile numbers to him. He had tried to pressurise them for having physical relation with him, the complaint said.
The principal had touched their private parts several times during last one year. Moreover, he had threatened them that they would be awarded poor marks in examination if they revealed anything about his behaviour before their parents and others. Both the students, however, told their parents about the matter. Thereafter, father of one girl lodged a complaint against Singh.
Acting on the complaint, police detained the principal and interrogated him. However, the family of the second girl is yet to lodge a complaint with the police.
Meanwhile, Childline members Kedar Bisoi and Rabindra Pradhan in compliance with the direction issued by the district child protection officer Suresh Kumar Pattanaik went to the homes of both the girls and recorded their statements. The Childline members later stated that the district
administration would initiate appropriate
action on the issue.
