Choudwar, Dec 30: Police Tuesday arrested two persons for hurling bombs at the quarters of jail warders on Choudwar jail premises.
A motorcycle and four mobile phones were seized from the accused identified as SK Babu (23) of Pension Lane and Mohammad Akil (21) of Kesarpur, Cuttack Zone-1 assistant commissioner of police Trinath Mishra told mediapersons.
The ruffians had hurled three bombs at the quarters of jail warders December 26 and fled the scene. During interrogation, police came to know Akil’s brother Mohammad Sakil was serving time at Choudwar jail for his involvement in a murder case. Sakil used to get into frequent arguments with jail warders, prompting the latter to lock him in a solitary cell. An enraged Sakil swore revenge.
The two accused met Sakil at the jail December 24 where the trio hatched a plot against the warders. Accordingly, seven bike-borne hooligans hurled three bombs at the warders’ quarters, the ACP said, adding the miscreants were produced in court following their arrest later in the day.
Action would be taken against Sakil and efforts are on to nab the other accused, the ACP added.
