Malkangiri: A day after a tribal youth of Titanag village in this district alleged to have lost a kidney while working as a migrant labourer with his brother in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh, the police rushed to the village and started an investigation Sunday.
The victim was identified as Irma Madkami, son of Samaru Madkami. Meanwhile, his brother Kasa Madkami has gone missing. Police met Irma and his father and recorded their statements while questioning them in this connection.
Irma and Kasa were working as migrant labourers in a bore-well company in Andhra Pradesh three years ago.
While working, Irma fell down from a bore-well vehicle and was injured in 2014. The company owner admitted him to a hospital in Vijayawada where doctors performed an operation on his stomach. His family members on being apprised about his illness rushed to the hospital and found him defecating through a pipe suspended from his stomach.
Later, the company owner handed him over Rs 10,000 and sent him back home. However, Irma’s condition turned critical on reaching home.
Family members borrowed money and took Irma to a doctor for a check-up. During medical examination, one of his kidneys was found missing. Family members were stunned over the development as they suspected that someone might have stolen the kidney of Irma during his operation at the Vijayawada hospital.
The twin incidents of Irma losing his kidney and his brother remaining untraceable have shattered the family members and pushed them into distress.
Locals alleged that in the absence of livelihood opportunities in the district due to Maoist menace hundreds of villagers every year migrate to Andhra Pradesh and other neighbouring states in search of jobs. PNN
