Bhubaneswar: The Orissa government Wednesday ordered a probe into the incident in which a woman was found murdered and her child left behind along with her body, by as-yet-unidentified men in a forest area near Kumbhariput village under Jeypore block in Koraput.
“Our department has asked the district child protection unit in Koraput to probe the matter and furnish a report about the circumstances that led to the occurrence of such an incident,” Women and Child Development (W&CD) minister Prafulla Samal told the media. “The local SP would be probing the incident and submitting a report to the home department. The guilty will be put behind the bars. The W&CD department will also go through the probe report and take necessary measures,” he said.
The 10-month-old baby girl was found crying near the body in the forest Monday night during inclement weather and in close proximity to the presence of wild animals. Fortunately, the child survived the odds. Police, on being informed, reached the Nilagiri forest area close to the village and rescued the girl. The body of the woman was sent for postmortem.
The W&CD minister said his department will ensure care and education of the infant till she reached age 18. According to reports, the Koraput SP has formed three teams to probe the incident.
