Bhadrak: Upcoming singer Prabhati Jena has committed suicide at her residence in Padmapokhari village under Dhamnagar police limits in this district. She was 22. The exact time of her suicide is not known. Police however, stated that she must have taken the desperate step sometime around late Saturday night
Family members, on finding her hanging from the ceiling with her dupatta around the neck, informed the police who came Sunday morning and brought down the body. It has been sent for autopsy.
Prabhati, who was known as ‘Melody Queen’ in her locality, used to perform stage shows regularly. Her decision to kill herself has baffled everyone. In her suicide note to her parents, Prabhati has said ‘no one is responsible for her death’. She has also said that she really wanted to enjoy her sister’s marriage, but she would not be able to do so as the situation has gone ‘beyond her control’.
Police however, are suspecting a ‘love affair’ behind the cause of her death. On checking her mobile phone police has discovered a number from which calls used to come to her frequently and conversations were lengthy. Police officials, however, did not disclose the identity of the person possessing the number but said it is currently ‘untraceable’.
Prabhati had performed at an event in Panikholi in Jajpur district, Thursday night. She had returned home Friday morning and her family members had not noticed anything amiss.
