Bhubaneswar: The state government has decided to provide 15 per cent of the block grant towards Employee Provident Fund (EPF) of employees, according to a notification that was issued Friday by the higher education department framing the Orissa Non-Government Aided Colleges Employees Provident Rules 2016.
The rule would come into force retrospectively from June 1, 2016.
The move comes close on the heels of the government announcing a hike in the salaries of block grant college employees.
“The governing body of the aided educational institution receiving block grant shall be provided with 15 per cent of the block grant as on May 31, 2016, as social security measures for the employees towards contribution of EPF, provided that all employees of the institution are covered under the Employees Provident Funds and Miscellaneous Provision Act 1952,” the notification said.
People who have been employed in aided educational institutions before May 31 this year and covered under the grant-in-aid (GIA) orders, would be covered under the EPF and Miscellaneous Provision Act 1952, according to the notification.
All employees of 488 and 662 category colleges would benefit from this decision, according to sources. Teachers and staff of Shastri and Upashastri colleges will also benefit from Friday’s decision, sources said.
In July, the state government had hiked the monthly remuneration of block grant college teachers and other employees by as much as 25 per cent retrospectively from June 1, 2016.
