Khandapada, July 3: Vigilance sleuths arrested the principal of the district police training school Sunday on the charge of taking a bribe of `75,000 from the mess in-charge of the school in Nayagarh.
Binod Das was caught red-handed and the money given as bribe seized from him, said the sleuths.
Das was taken to Bhubaneswar where he was produced in a vigilance court. A case has been registered, said a vigilance official.
Vigilance sources said Das was posted as the principal of the school for the last one-and-a-half years and was running the school whimsically.
The principal would threaten trainees and staff that their careers would be ruined if they did not follow his orders, according to sources. He even used to allegedly demand money from trainees to help them pass examinations.
Das demanded `1 lakh per month as bribe from ASI Rama Krushna Satapathy, who managed the mess, but the latter refused, according to the complaint lodged. Das then threatened to suspend or transfer Satapathy who turned to vigilance DSP Haranarayan Pati for help.
A trap was laid and the PTS?principal was arrested while accepting a bribe of `75,000 from Satapathy in his office.
“We searched Das’ quarter (VA-35/4) in unit-II area and found he had a two-storey building in Palasuni worth `23,66,260 and two plots near AIIMS here worth at least `4,59,000. We also found a Toyota Etios car (OR-02-X-9955), a Bajaj Pulsar motorcycle and a bank locker in SBI, Bhubaneswar,” a vigilance official said.
