Bhubaneswar: With Durga Puja at the doorstep, puja committees of the capital city are under immense pressure to complete the pandals.
The Durga Puja pandals of Saheed Nagar and Jharpada are not yet completed. Durga Puja will begin from Sashti Friday and will be followed by Saptami, Ashtami, Navami and Dashami.
The Saheed Nagar puja committee is creating a replica of the Chhota Imambara in Lucknow while Jharpada is creating Disney Land of Paris.
The pandals basically should have been ready by October 1 but Narayana Mohapatra of Saheed Nagar said that heavy rain in the last few weeks have disrupted construction work.
“We are in the last stage and by tonight we will complete the pandals,” he said.
“Rain and some economical problems disrupted the construction but we will be ready by Friday morning,” said Ugrasen Mahngaraj of Jharpada.
Meanwhile, many committees are still using plastic bottles and other materials in the construction of pandals despite the government banning the use of plastic.
