Punjab parcel bomb case: Main accused arrested from Rourkela

Rourkela: The prime accused in the ‘Punjab Parcel Bomb’ case which injured two persons Septmber 26 was arrested from steel city Rourkela.

The Punjab police and Rourkela Plant police jointly laid a trap to nab Raj Rajyana, the main conspirator behind the crime Wednesday. He lived in Basanti Colony of Rourkela plant site.

The arrested accused is taken to Punjab for further interrogation.

Notably two persons, including the owner of a courier agency, were injured after a low intensity parcel bomb exploded in the firm’s office September 26.

The parcel was meant for delivery to some ‘Bhupesh Rajyana, Rajyana House, Patiala Gate, Sangrur’ and the man who came with the parcel told the agency that the parcel contained clothes.

As the parcel weighed heavy, the agency owner Vikas Sood suspected about its contents and enquired the man about it. But the man ran away.

When Vikas opened the parcel to check its contents, it exploded injuring him and another customer Rakesh Tayal. Both were rushed to the hospital.

Preliminary investigation had revealed the case to be of personal rivalry and it zeroed down to the brother of the Bhupesh Rajyana in Odisha. It is suspected that Rajan sent this parcel to his brother in a bid to kill him.
