post news network, Bhubaneswar, April 16: The Kalinga Institute of Industrial Training (KIIT) Thursday organised a plethora of programmes to mark the Baisakhi celebrations in the city. The cultural evening was organised at the Utkal Mandap. The three-day celebrations kicked off Wednesday.
Several people from all walks of life thronged the site to get a glimpse of the celebrations to usher in the Punjabi New Year. Several song and dance performances were lined up for the evening to make the ambience more refreshing for the citizens of the city.
“Baisakhi is an important festival for us. Day before yesterday I visited the Khareval Nagar Gurudwara to celebrate the festival and took part in the ‘gurubani’ and ‘langar’. And today I have come here to see come cultural programmes, which are specially crafted to mark the occasion. This gives us a feeling of home-away-from- home. I really enjoyed the programmes organised at the venue,” said Mann Singh, a city-based businessman who hails from Amritsar.
The programmes were organised in association with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and Central Reserve Police Force. Many classical dance performances were held besides other entertainment programmes. Odissi, the popular dance form of Orissa was also performed on the occasion.
“We came down to this venue from Patia just to get involved in the celebrations. I wanted to take part in this programme as I was interested in programmes, which were scheduled at this place. It was really worth coming to the event. Moreover, watching performances in an open auditorium at Utkal Mandap was really a great experience,” said Sandeep Maharana, an engineering student from KIIT.
