Puri: Satyabadi police arrested five hardcore criminals after a brief exchange of fire at Kadua Chhak in Puri district Friday night.
Dreaded criminal Bishnu Sahoo (27) alias Bishu of Chudanga Sahi was injured in the crossfire. Other members of the gang who were arrested include Sheikh Fakiri (31) of Narendrakona, Bhagaban Das (22) alias Pintu of Matitota, Siba Kumar Das (24) of Sudarsan Nagar and Subha Gochhayat (38) of Chaitana village, police sources informed.

It has been learnt that there are several cases filed against them under various police stations in Puri district. However, Satyabadi police had received a tip-off that the gang had plans to rob a petrol pump near Kadua Chhak. As the police team approached near them, the gang resorted to hurling handmade bombs in a bid to escape from the police.
After an exchange of fire, the dreaded criminals were arrested and a case was filed. They will be forwarded to court Saturday morning.
