Puri: Food safety officials and the district administration have intensified inspections of khaja-making units in Puri ahead of the festive season Tuesday, sealing five units for alleged violations of food safety norms.
During a raid in Dolamandap Sahi near the Shree Jagannath Temple, officials seized sugar syrup, eight domestic LPG cylinders and about four quintals of khaja. Two pushcarts were also seized during the operation.
The inspections are aimed at preventing adulteration and ensuring that sweets sold to devotees and visitors meet food safety standards. Officials said raids would continue across the town.
The latest action follows an earlier crackdown in which authorities destroyed about five quintals of khaja, syrup and sealed four units.
