Mumbai: PV Sindhu’s feat of becoming the first Indian to win a gold medal at the World Badminton Championships will certainly increase her demand in the brand endorsement market. Currently, PV Sindhu charges Rs 1-1.5 crore per product according to information available from Tuhin Mishra, managing director and co-founder of Baseball Ventures, the company which manages the player’s portfolio.
According to Mishra the fee will now hit the rupees three-crore mark as many companies have expressed the desire to get her on board after her World Championships triumph. Sindhu has earned a place of pride in the sporting arena, thus sending her brand value soaring.
PV Sindhu currently endorses 14 products worth around Rs 40 crore. She endorses brands like JBL, Yonex, Moov, Bridgestone, Gatorade Nokia, Panasonic and Bank of Baroda. The Indian shuttler, in 2018 signed a four-year contract worth Rs 50 crore with Chinese sports brand LI-Ning.
The 24-year-old athlete was also seen advertising about GST. She was also appointed as the brand ambassador of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant soon after she won the silver medal at the Rio Olympics in 2016.
According to many in the marketing and advertising industry it is Sindhu’s stupendous achievements coupled with her ‘next girl door’ image which makes her very ‘desirable’ for many brands. According to them, many brands will now go after her as she is the most successful among non-cricket celebs.
The 24-year-old Indian shuttler ranked 13 in ‘Forbes Highest-Paid Female Athletes 2019 list’, with total earnings of USD 5.5 million which include salaries, prize money, bonuses, endorsements and appearance fees between June 2018 and June 2019.
Although Sindhu is the most successful female athlete in the country her brand value is nowhere near to Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli, who has a net worth of 200 crores. Experts said with the growth of the social media platforms female athletes will have more opportunities in the coming years. PV Sindhu is quite active in social media with over five million followers on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
