Puri: Staging protest against the ‘Queue System’ darshan of the deities at the Lord Jagannath Temple in Puri, the Jagannath Sena, a socio-cultural outfit called a 12-hour bandh in the holy city Wednesday.

Members of the Jagannath Sena and devotees were witnessed breaking the railings and barricades installed on the ‘Baisi Pahacha’ near Singhadwar of the temple.

Vehicular movement on the ‘Bada Danda’ came to a grinding halt in the town due to the dawn-to-dusk bandh while commercial establishments remained closed on the day.

Meanwhile, the convener of the outfit Priyadarshan Patnaik has been taken into police custody Wednesday morning.

According to the new system introduced by the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) October 1, devotees have to stand in a queue at the Singhadwara and move inside the temple through barricades.

After having darshan of the deities they will have to exit through the Uttaradwara of the 12th century shrine. There are separate barricades for men and women.
