Bhubaneswar: Henceforth the Railway Protection Force (RPF) will register a criminal case whenever there is a rail roko agitation and take legal action.
The decision to initiate criminal case in case of rail roko was taken at the meeting of State Level Security Committee for Railways held here Wednesday under the chairmanship of Director General of Police (DGP) Rajendra Prasad Sharma.
The meeting also decided to form a committee for removal of encroachments on the railway properties.
The Encroachment Removal Committee will be headed by the concerned Range Inspector General of Police (IGP) or Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) and representatives Railway Protection Force (RPF), Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), DM & Collector and SP of the district concerned while Superintendents of Railway Police Cuttack/Rourkela will be members. It was decided that steps will be taken for prompt registration of criminal cases whenever reported by the passengers at the government railway police station (GRPS) other than the place of occurrence and the same will be immediately transferred to the concerned GRPs directly, so that investigation can start without further delay.
“There has been a proposal to install close circuit television (CCTV) cameras at every railway station and train for safety and security of the passengers. It will be implemented very soon. A proposal for augmentation of strength in GRP, Odisha has already been sent to the Central government for the safety and security of railway passengers and railway properties,” Railway Police ADG Pranabindu Acharya said.
DGP Sharma said, “The anti-sabotage measures and sharing of intelligence were discussed. There is no big problem in recent past in the naxal affected areas, but there are certain measures in place which the RPF is ensuring and we emphasise on enough intelligence sharing regarding the railway lines in naxal affected areas.”
Various other issues like formation of a Disaster Management Team comprising different agencies like GRP, RPF, Fire Service, Medical team, ODRAF team were also discussed.
The meeting suggested that GRP and RPF should hold regular meetings at Superintendent of Police level for better coordination and cooperation.
