BHUBANESWAR: Every year, the Puja pandal of the Jharpada Durga Puja Samithi draws maximum crowds to savour its beautiful design and architectural splendour. So will be the scene this season of the Puja festival too. The Samithi has made its own layout and design for the gate, a grand one at that, and the pandal will elegantly present the image of the railway station. Around 50 artists from Kolkata are hard at work, day and night, to complete the pandal. “This year, we are not making any replica. Rather, we have decided to build a pandal that will look like a railway station. We have named it as ‘Kalinga Junction’. There will be a train, with an engine and three air-conditioned bogies, and this will cost us Rs 40 lakh,” informed Sridhar Jena, convener of the committee. There will be a special arrangement for the differently-abled and eld
erly people, like wheelchair. Speaking about other attractions of the pandal, Jena said there would be more than 200 shops in the mini bazaar. The 40-feet effigy of demon king Raavan would be a major attraction. This would ceremonially be torched on the day of Dussehra, in the playground of the Jharpada High School. “Like last year, this year too, the effigy of Raavan is being made by an artist from Jatni. A variety of crackers would be used to make it a gala event. Various cultural troupes from places like Chatrapur, Burhampur, Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Bhubaneswar will perform on each day, from Sashti to Dusehra,” he said. The committee has also made special arrangements for security by installing a set of 14 CCTVs. “Along with CCTV cameras, there will be around 200 volunteers and police personnel for the security of the people,” said Jena
