Puri: After receiving flak from the National Green Tribunal (NGT) over depleting groundwater level in the Holy City, collector Aravind Agarwal Friday directed all government offices to set up rainwater harvesting plants at the earliest. The green body, in its November 2 order, had expressed displeasure over the district administration’s failure in ensuring rainwater harvesting plants at all government offices. The eastern region bench of NGT in Kolkata had also directed the administration to make rainwater harvesting plants mandatory for all private buildings in the city. The petitioner had informed the green body that many hotels and private individuals have been drawing groundwater illegally for years.
