Bhubaneswar: U-14 teen sensation Asutosh Sahoo’s (66, 57b) brilliant half century and Aniket Pattanaik’s (4/44) fiery bowling proved crucial as Rameswar A defeated Paramount Sporting Club (PSC) by 23 runs to clinch the IInd Rameswar Cup U-19 cricket tournament title here, Sunday.
Chasing a victory target of 202, PSC were skittled out for 178 runs in 32.1 overs. Ayushraj Choudhry (76, 80b) who has been in good knick throughout the tournament was once again the top scorer for the team.
Abhijeet tripathy (24, 34 b) was the only other batsman to provide Ayushraj some support as no other player stood firm in front of Aniket. Biswajeet Mallick (3/28) and Rajesh Shanti (2/30) were the other wicket takers for Rameswar.
Earlier, opting to bat first, Rameswar rode on knocks from man of the match Asutosh and Kunal Mullick (41, 56b) to post a challenging 201 for six in 35 overs. Farat Khan (2/43) was the standout bowler for PSC. Ayushraj was adjudged the player of the series while Aniket got the best bowler award. Kunal took the best batsman award while the best fielder award went to Krushna Chandra Barik of PSC. The champions got a cash award of Rs 15,000 while the losers took home Rs 10,000.
Chess tourney
The Orissa State Chess Association (OSCA) and Khurda District Chess Club (KDCC) will jointly organise the IIIrd State Open Rapid Chess Championship June 3 at Tapang Primary School premises in Khurda District, the organisers announced Sunday.
The tournament carries total prize purse of Rs 13,100 which will be distributed to the players occupying the top 15 positions.
