Bhubaneswar, Oct 17: Ranjit Singh (92, 164b, 14×4, 1×6) scored a brilliant half century to give Orissa score a semblance of respectability Saturday amidst a batting debacle in their two-day tie against Haryana in the U-23 cricket tournament at the VSS Ground, Sambalpur.
Opting to bat first, Orissa were skittled out for 176 against some disciplined bowling by Haryana. Barring Ranjit, no other Orissa batsmen could perform. Priyatosh Parmanik (21, 72b, 4×4) and Debapriya Patnaik (18, 41b, 1×6) got starts, but failed to convert them into something substantial. PB Mehta (4/24) was the pick of the Haryana bowlers.
In reply, Haryana were 129 for the loss of three wickets at the end day one. Openers Parvesh Dahiya (61, 76b, 9×4, 2×6) and Ankit Narwal (51, 73b, 8×4) gave them a solid.

Central crush South
Central Zone registered a resounding 192-run victory against Soutn Zone in the Inter-Zone cricket tournament at the DRIEMS Ground in Cuttack, Saturday. Opting to bat first, Central rode on a scintillating century by A Khare (139 n o, 116b, 12×4, 4×6) to score 310 for the loss of five wickets in the stipulated 50 overs. Central’s innings was also aided by half centuries from Shivam Chaudhury (88, 101b, 8×4, 4×6) and Upendra Yadav (50, 46b, 4×4, 2×6).
In reply, West Zone were never in the chase and were bundled out for 118 in 29.5 overs thanks to some penetrative bowling by Zeeshan Ansari (4/20).
Brief score: Central Zone 310 (A Khare 139, Shivam Chaudhury 88) beat South Zone 118 in 29.5 overs (Zeeshan Ansari 4/20) by 192 runs.
UP-AP final
Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh won their respective semifinals at Cuttack, Friday to enter the final of the U-19 Women’s Knock-out cricket tournament. They will meet in the final at the Ravenshaw Ground, Monday.
In the first semifinal at Nimpur Ground, Andhra Pradesh beat Mumbai by 63 runs while in the second UP defeated MP by 38 runs.
