Bhubaneswar: The Odisha State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (OSCPCR) has expressed concern over the recent rape-murder of a minor girl in Jaleswar of Baleshwar and sought reports from the SP and the local CDPO.
The commission has sought details on the progress of the investigation, whether a scientific investigation was conducted given the burn marks on the victim’s body, and the status of evidence collection and forensic examination.
It has also sought information on the security arrangements made for the victim’s family and directed the officials to submit their reports at the earliest. The report said police took no action for five days after the complaint was lodged.
Although the accused was brought to a police outpost and handed over to the police, he was allegedly allowed to leave. So far, the action taken against police personnel has been limited to the suspension of the outpost officer and the transfer of the police station in-charge.
The victim’s family has demanded criminal cases against the police officers found responsible for negligence. With residents expressing a lack of confidence in the local police, they have demanded that the investigation be handed over to the Crime Branch.
